The drive to Tairua is a very scenic drive that takes you through the kopu-hikuai road. This road to Tairua goes though steep hills and can be very windy at times. It is important to drive to the conditions as the road can get slippery when it is wet. The roads coming in and out of Tairua can sometimes have slips from the surrounding cliffs. These slips are not common and are cleaned up quickly, but care should be taken.
